Billet 140 Amp Alternator
#12050 / #BLK12050
• This alternator is a direct replacement for Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine systems.
• If you do not have a Billet Specialties Tru Trac system, Stop Now.
• Disconnect negative ( - ) battery terminal before replacing alternator. Serious damage to alternator or injury can occur.
READ THIS FIRST
Remove Existing Alternator:
• Disconnect alternator power wire
• Using an Allen wrench remove the alternator nose cone
• At this time loosen the alternator pulley/fan nut with an impact wrench.
Note: Do not insert a tool into the alternator or fan to prevent it from
rotating, this will cause damage to the alternator pulley/fan.
• Remove the 3/8-16 x 1/2” 12pt. cap screw from the tensioner pulley.
• Use a 5/8” wrench to release the tension on the system and remove belt.
• Loosen the bridge bracket fasteners on the driver side of the engine. It is
not necessary to remove the fasteners. Idler pulleys may need to be
removed to gain access to these fasteners.
• Remove the 8mm-1.25 x 25mm 12pt. cap screw from the top of bridge
bracket & top alternator boss.
• Support alternator and remove the 10mm-1.5 12pt. cap screw from the
bridge bracket and lower alternator boss. Remove alternator.
Install 140 Amp Billet Alternator:
• Install new 140 amp billet alternator in reverse order of disassembly.
• Torque alternator nut to 70 ft.lbs. and reinstall alternator nose cone.
• Reconnect battery negative ( - ) cable and test run motor.
Note: Alternator will begin charging at 1200 RPM.
Tech Info: How voltage travels from the alternator to the battery is very
important. Using an under size wire between the two could result in
voltage loss. With this 140 amp alternator you have increased the volume
of current and you will need to increase the size of the charge wire
accordingly. Using too small of a charge wire will result in a voltage drop
to the battery.
Recommended Cable Size by length:
• Up to 7ft. 6 AWG
• 8ft. to 10ft. 4 AWG
• 11ft. & longer 2 AWG
